QuizWizards shortlisted for Best Sports Business of the Year
QuizWizards has been shortlisted for Best Sports Business of the Year at the 2025 Irish Sport Industry Awards, a milestone in a journey that began with a simple question on Twitter.
Organised by the Federation of Irish Sport, the awards take place on 20 May 2025 at Dublin’s College Green Hotel. QuizWizards is one of four finalists in the category, alongside WiiStream, ClubSpot and Irish American Events Ltd.
Best Sports Business of the Year recognition
The official shortlist recognises QuizWizards among businesses working across the sports industry. For Founder and CEO Rory McEvoy, it is a moment to reflect on how the idea first took shape.
“It started with a tweet”
After almost 20 years working as a management accountant for multinational organisations, Rory found the starting point for a new business while sitting on his couch.
He asked his Twitter followers a question about the Channel 4 game show The Crystal Maze. The replies went beyond answers, with people sharing memories, stories and enthusiasm for the programme.
Within days, Rory had started a Twitter quiz. Hotels and brands in Ireland soon began asking to sponsor the games. What initially looked like a way to earn some extra holiday money revealed a wider opportunity: audiences wanted to take part, and brands wanted to be part of the experience.
From an idea to international activations
That early experiment developed into QuizWizards, supported by Enterprise Ireland and angel investment. Its work has reached stadium audiences, digital communities and sports broadcasts, including activations involving the Phoenix Suns and NBC’s Peacock.
